My nephews are avid basketball players and practice at all times of the day and night. After a somewhat aggressive dunking session, they were in need of a new basketball hoop. I took the opportunity to create an LED basketball hoop for Christmas that would also allow them to play at night.
I took a shatterproof basketball hoop and created a backing for it in Adobe Illustrator - mapping out the positions for the LEDs and the outline of the backboard. I then used a CNC machine to cut a backing from the Illustrator file into Alupanel.
The LEDs are controlled by a small lighting controller, and have six separate color sequences that can be triggered by buttons on the controller housing, or via a web interface from their smartphones.
